The Rev. Dr. Valerie Andrews

THE REV. DR. VALERIE ANDREWS
Dr. Valerie Andrews is the Founder, Pastor & CEO of Tamar Speaks! Chapter 2, Inc., Pastoral care and Counseling Center. ​
She is a native of Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in the Bedford/Stuyvesant community. She is the mother of three adult Children, and the grandmother of four grandchildren.
Dr. Andrews is a licensed Ordained Baptist Minister. She received a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Care and Counseling with a focus on developing "A Holistic Healing Ministry for African American Women who are survivors of childhood sexual abuse" from United Theological Seminary. She is a published author of “Tamar Speaks! A Holistic Healing Ministry for African American Women who Are Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse". She holds a certificate of training in Clinical Pastoral Education from New York Presbyterian/ University and Cornell at Mount Sinai Hospital. She has also received some psychoanalytic training from Blanton and Peale Institute for Religion and Health. She holds a Master of Divinity from New York Theological Seminary. She also majored in Social Work, and minored in Psychology and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Adelphi University. In addition Dr. Andrews holds a host of certificates in the Human Services field in the area of Antecedent Behaviors and Consequence Trainings, GPS/MAPP Leadership Certificate Trainer, Traumatize Children and Youth Certificate Trainer, PTSD and Spirituality Certificates and a host of trainings for her CASAC. She is She is also an abuse mandated reporter.​ Dr. Andrews is the Founded, Chief Executive Officer and Pastor of Tamar Speaks! Chapter 2, Inc., Pastoral Care and Counseling Center. She works with Victims and Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse, Sexual Assault, and Domestic Violence. She is an expert in the area of childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence. In addition, Dr. Andrews has worked in the area of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, Prevention, Foster Care, Adoption, Homeless Children, Adults and Emotionally Challenged Individuals for thirty years. She has also worked as an Adjunct Professor at the College of New Rochelle School of New Resources and taught in the area of Religion and Health; with a focus on the Roleof The Black Church, and Blacks in the Bible. Dr. Andrews has sponsored, and facilitated numerous trainings, Conferences, and Workshops through out the tri-state area to both the Religious community and the secular communities on topics of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Childhood Sexual Abuse, Building Self-Esteem, Silent Shame, Breaking the Silence, of Shame, Stress management, Spirituality, When Shame Hurts, and Parenting Skills, Empowering Victims and Survivors of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to Break the silence of Shame through Storytelling, The Black Church Response to Domestic Violence, Stop The Violence and Anger management. Dr. Andrews as an Advocate for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault has helped change policies surrounding the issues of Childhood sexual Abuse and sexual Assault were publicized in several newspaper articles. One article is titled, states, "New York State Needs a Stronger Laws to Protect Young Women from Genital Mutilation."
She also participated and advocated for "More Funding Urged for rape crisis Centers", which was published in Albany New York News Paper. In addition, Dr. Andrews work with "Tamar Speaks! A Holistic Healing Ministry for African American Women Who Are Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse" was highlighted in Essence Magazine, April, 1998. Dr. Andrews participated in several radio talk shows through Medgar Evers College, and WBLI /WBLS on the topic of "Childhood Sexual Abuse." She participated as a panelist in a discussion on the topic of "Rites Of Passage" Program for our youth at the Circle of Sisters Expo at Jacob Jarvis Convention Center. She was on Time Warner Television, New York where she presented "Pastoral Care and Spiritual needs of the Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse" hosted by CONNECT, New York, at the Interfaith Theological around Table discussion.
